Le présent mémoire porte sur l’expérience périnatale des femmes qui vont en maison de naissance et dont le suivi est assuré par une sage-femme. Plus précisément, il s’attarde aux représentations du corps et de la douleur de même qu’aux émotions suscitées par ces images corporelles au moment de la grossesse, de l’accouchement et de la période postnatale en regard au contexte socioculturel dans lequel s’inscrivent les actrices concernées. C’est par le biais d’entrevues semi-dirigées et d’observation participante que cette étude anthropologique menée auprès de 18 femmes québécoises, enceintes et multipares, a voulu explorer la façon dont elles conçoivent, ressentent et vivent cette période de vie particulièrement chargée de sens. La mise en parallèle, dans ce travail, des récits des femmes qui vont en maison de naissance avec ceux des femmes qui accouchent à l’hôpital révèle de nombreuses similitudes entre ces deux groupes en ce qui a trait, par exemple, au sens accordé au processus de mise au monde mais elle laisse entrevoir, en contrepartie, des différences importantes quant au vécu périnatal.

Abstract (English)  :

This thesis deals with the perinatal experience of women who go to birth centers and are followed by a midwife. More specifically, it focuses on the representations of the body and the pain as well as the emotions aroused by these body images at the time of pregnancy, childbirth and the post-natal period in relation to the socio-cultural context in which it occurs. register the concerned actresses.
