Abstract (English) : | A research team headed by Dr. Helen Steed at the University of Alberta questions the routine practice of episiotomy to accommodate a forceps delivery. A recent article in The Medical Post reports that researchers examined the medical records of 272 women who had a forceps delivery during 1994 at Grey Nuns Community Health Centre in Edmonton. All of the women had one baby, born in the vertex (head first, face down) position. |
