Résumé (français) : | Cet article décrit la nouvelle application MyPreemie pour iPhone et iPad, conçue pour informer, aider, responsabiliser et soutenir les parents de bébés prématurés à l’USIN et ultérieurement. Créée par la même équipe qui a écrit le livre Preemies : Le guide essentiel des parents de bébés prématurés, l’application contient des informations sur des problèmes médicaux et de développement. questions suggérées que les parents pourraient demander aux médecins et aux infirmières pour comprendre les soins de leur bébé ; un journal combiné pour bébé et un journal intime pour adultes avec des invites précises pour enregistrer les événements et les émotions des outils pour suivre la croissance ; et organiser des listes de questions à poser, de tâches à accomplir et de souvenirs à collecter. Les pages de l’application peuvent être partagées par courrier électronique ou sur Facebook pour faciliter la communication avec la famille et les amis, et imprimées au format PDF et enregistrées. Dans l’ensemble, l’application vise à atténuer la détresse des parents en proposant des activités parentales significatives pendant le séjour en unité de soins intensifs néonataux et un sens accru de normalité, de contrôle et de connexion. Les infirmières sont encouragées à informer les familles de leurs patients de l’application MyPreemie afin de répondre à leurs besoins pratiques et émotionnels et de les aider à faire face à la stressante expérience de la prématurité. |
Abstract (English) : | This article describes the new MyPreemie app for iPhone and iPad, designed to inform, assist, empower, and support parents of premature babies in the NICU and afterwards. Created by the same team who wrote the book Preemies: The Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies, the app contains information on medical and developmental issues; suggested questions for parents to ask doctors and nurses to understand their baby’s care; a combined baby journal and adult diary with focused prompts to record events and emotions; tools to track growth; and organizing lists for questions to ask, tasks to do, and mementos to collect. The app’s pages can be shared by email or Facebook to facilitate communication with family and friends, and printed in PDF and saved. Overall, the app aims to ease parents’ distress by providing meaningful parenting activities during a baby’s NICU stay and an increased sense of normality, control, and connection. Nurses are encouraged to advise their patients’ families about the MyPreemie app as a way to help meet their practical and emotional needs and support them through the stressful experience of prematurity. |
Sumário (português) : | Este artigo descreve o novo aplicativo MyPreemie para iPhone e iPad, projetado para informar, ajudar, capacitar e apoiar os pais de bebês prematuros na UTIN e posteriormente. Criado pela mesma equipe que escreveu o livro Preemies: o guia essencial para pais de bebês prematuros, o aplicativo contém informações sobre questões médicas e de desenvolvimento; perguntas sugeridas para os pais pedirem que médicos e enfermeiros entendam os cuidados com o bebê; um diário de bebês e diário de adultos combinados com avisos direcionados para registrar eventos e emoções; ferramentas para acompanhar o crescimento; e organização de listas para perguntas, tarefas a serem feitas e lembranças a serem coletadas. As páginas do aplicativo podem ser compartilhadas por email ou Facebook para facilitar a comunicação com familiares e amigos, impressas em PDF e salvas. No geral, o aplicativo tem como objetivo aliviar o sofrimento dos pais, fornecendo atividades parentais significativas durante a estadia na UTIN do bebê e um aumento da sensação de normalidade, controle e conexão. Os enfermeiros são incentivados a aconselhar as famílias de seus pacientes sobre o aplicativo MyPreemie como uma maneira de ajudar a atender às suas necessidades práticas e emocionais e apoiá-las através da experiência estressante da prematuridade. |

Argument (français) : | En sensibilisant les familles à cette nouvelle ressource, peut-être en leur montrant qu’elles peuvent la voir par elles-mêmes, et en collaborant avec les parents dans son utilisation, les infirmières peuvent demeurer à l’avant-garde des soins familiaux, renforcer leur relation avec les parents et ajouter aux nombreux services extraordinaires qu’ils offrent aux familles et à leurs petit patients. |
Argument (English): | By making families aware of this new resource, perhaps demonstrating it to them so they can see it for themselves, and collaborating with parents in its use, nurses can stay at the forefront of family care, reinforcing their relationship with parents and adding to the many tremendous services they provide to the families of their tiny patients. |
