Résumé (français) : | Les fermetures et fusions des maternités amorcées dans les années 1970 ont entraîné une concentration très importante des naissances dans les grandes maternités publiques. Cette évolution soulève des interrogations sur la prise en charge médicale des femmes au moment de l’accouchement. Dans certains pays, des études mettent ainsi en évidence un plus grand nombre d’interventions obstétricales dans les grandes maternités, y compris chez des femmes dont la grossesse ne présente pas de complications (dites à « bas risque »). |

Argument (français) : | Plus d’une femme sur deux dont la grossesse est à bas risque (52 %) a eu au moins une intervention obstétricale (travail déclenché, césarienne, extraction instrumentale, épisiotomie) en 2010. La probabilité d’avoir une intervention n’est pas plus élevée dans les grandes maternités. Elle l’est, en revanche, dans les maternités privées. |
Argument (English): | More than one in two women with low-risk pregnancies (52%) had at least one obstetric intervention (induction of labor, caesarean section, instrumental extraction, episiotomy) in 2010. The likelihood of having an intervention is not higher in the larger maternities. It is, however, in private maternities. |
Argumento (português): | Mais de uma em cada duas mulheres com gravidez de baixo risco (52%) tiveram pelo menos uma intervenção obstétrica (desencadeamento do parto, cesariana, extração instrumental, episiotomia) em 2010. A probabilidade de ter uma intervenção não é maior nas maternidades maiores. É, no entanto, em maternidades privadas. |
