Résumé (français) : | Les services de maternité du NHS sont surchargés et le taux de mortalité infantile au Royaume-Uni est parmi les plus bas d’Europe. Selon les derniers chiffres, 97,9% des naissances ont eu lieu à l’hôpital, bien que les naissances à l’hôpital ne soient pas toujours plus sûres. En fait, la grande majorité des femmes qui accouchent à l’hôpital ont plus à voir avec l’histoire qu’avec les problèmes de santé. |
Abstract (English) : | NHS maternity services are stretched and infant mortality rates in the UK are some of the worst in Europe. At last count, as many as 97.9% of births took place in hospital – despite the fact that hospital births aren’t always safer. Actually, the reason why the vast majority of women give birth in hospital has more to do with history, than with health outcomes. |
Sumário (português) : | Os serviços de maternidade do NHS são esticados e as taxas de mortalidade infantil no Reino Unido são algumas das piores da Europa. Na última contagem, até 97,9% dos nascimentos ocorreram no hospital - apesar do fato de que os nascimentos hospitalares nem sempre são mais seguros. Na verdade, a razão pela qual a grande maioria das mulheres dá à luz no hospital tem mais a ver com a história do que com os resultados de saúde. |
