Dans le chapitre 4 (p.63-80) intitulé Birth and violence against women : Generating hypotheses
from women’s accounts of unhappiness after childbirth, l’anthropologue Sheila Kitzinger compare
les mots utilisés par des femmes ayant été victimes d’abus sexuels et ceux utilisés par des femmes
parlant de leurs accouchements : ce sont…les mêmes. Pour la première fois depuis la dénonciation
en 1958 en Amérique de la cruauté existant dans les maternités, il est publiquement question de
violence obstétricale
