Présentation et analyse de données issues d’une étude sur la violence institutionnelle dans des maternités d’hôpitaux publics Brésiliennes (Sao Paulo). Entretiens semis-structurés avec 22 femmes ayant accouché, sur leur expérience et sur les soins reçus. Les données mettent en évidence que les femmes interrogées ont fait l’objet de pratiques discriminatoires et de manques de respectueux (tratamento grosseiro) et s’en sont rendu compte. Leurs réactions ont été des stratégies de résistance ou d’accommodation. Ce type d’expériences est tellement fréquent que ces femmes s’y attendent, ce qui révèle une situation de banalisation de la violence institutionnelle

Abstract (English)  :

This paper presents and discusses data
from a survey on institutional violence in
public maternity hospitals, conducted in
the municipality of São Paulo, Brazil.
Twenty-one puerperae were interviewed
about their childbirth experiences and the
care received, using a semi-structured
format. The data showed that the
interviewees reported and recognized
discriminatory practices and ill-mannered
treatment within the attendance at the
public maternity hospitals. They reacted
through strategies of resistance or
accommodation. These experiences are so
frequent that these women often come to
expect to suffer some type of
mistreatment, thus revealing a situation
of trivialization of institutional violence
