Abstract (English) : | Context: Clinically preferred maternal position during childbirth has varied between supine and nonsupine over time and from patient to patient. Preferred maternal birthing position is coming under increasing scrutiny. |

Argument (français) : | Cet essai compare 100 femmes qui ont accouché allongées sur le dos (dans un même lieu d’accouchement) à 98 femmes qui ont accouché en position assise et/ou accroupie et/ou à 4 pattes ou à genoux (dans un autre lieu d’accouchement). Il y a moins de déchirures du périnée et moins d’oedèmes de la vulve, et aussi moins de perte de sang parmi les femmes qui ont accouché en position autre qu’allongée, sans augmentation de risque pour le bébé. |
