Abstract (English)  :

Although there is now heightned awareness of postnatal depression, symptoms of trauma tend to be missed in women who have recently given birth. It is important
for professionals and lay persons to have some understanding of the differences between depression and post traumatic distress disorder because the treatment can be quite different for the two disorders. The literature in this emerging field is still quite limited; nonetheless, there are some identified risk factors and treatment considerations that will be discussed below.

Always ask women how the labour and birth were, validate their feelings, help them regain control as soon as possible during high stress times, and allow them to talk talk talk.
