Abstract (English) : | Episiotomy (an incision made to enlarge the vaginal opening during the birthing stage of labour), was until recently a routine surgical procedure believed to prevent injury to a birthing woman’s perineum. But several studies during the 1980s found that there is no advantage to routine episiotomy. In fact, in many cases, episiotomy caused more harm than good. Studies showed that a tear heals better and causes less postpartum pain than a surgical cut. |
